Hexagram 13: Fellowship
Heaven above Fire. Find something worth doing together.
An original modern reflection on the I Ching image. This is not a translation of the classical Judgment or line statements.
Find something worth doing together
Fire gives light beneath an open sky. Fellowship can begin with a shared undertaking even when people bring different histories and opinions. Make the common purpose specific enough to recognize. A modest agreement that everyone understands can support more cooperation than an impressive statement nobody has discussed.
A question to sit with
What is the smallest goal everyone involved could genuinely agree to work toward?
One small step
Write the shared goal in one sentence. Invite another person to revise it, then agree on one contribution each of you can make.
Reading the figure
The upper trigram is Heaven; the lower trigram is Fire. The first line is at the bottom, and the sixth is at the top. You identify this hexagram from its six-line figure, not from a word match to your question.
Read the image alongside the actual circumstances you know. Notice what fits and what does not. The relating hexagram depends on your changing lines, so there is no single fixed “next hexagram” for this pattern.
What changes when one line moves?
This map changes exactly one line at a time. If your cast has several changing lines, all of them flip together; the resulting pattern may differ from every row below. These are structural changes, not translations of the classical line statements.
| Changing position | Relating hexagram |
|---|---|
| Line 1 · bottom | 33. Retreat |
| Line 2 | 1. The Creative |
| Line 3 | 25. Innocence |
| Line 4 | 37. The Family |

| Line 6 · top | 49. Revolution |
